Maine Irish Heritage Center Facts

Founded:
The Maine Irish Heritage center was founded in 2001.

Mission:
Protect, preserve and restore the historic landmark that was formerly St. Dominic’s Church, a hub of early Irish community in Maine; provide a center for Maine’s diverse communities to share their cultural experiences through education programs and community events; and house Maine’s Irish Genealogical Center and Library, preserving the story of Irish history in Maine.

Collections:
The MIHC Library now has over 600 books in our on-line catalogue. They also have a wealth of newspapers, church records and photographs that date as early as the 1870s.

Facilities:
The Maine Irish Heritage Center has two levels which are available to rent. The upper level sanctuary’s soaring arches, traditional wooden pews, stained glass windows and historic bell will enchant all visitors and will provide a lovely venue for your concert, lecture, wedding or other celebration or ceremony. Smaller rooms off the main sanctuary provide ample space for displays or preparation.

Our lower level, which is handicapped accessible, can accommodate up to 300 people and is ideal for round tables of eight guests per table.
